The ICM is the largest professional credit management organisation in Europe. Its 8,700 members hold appointments throughout industry and commerce - in trade, consumer and export credit as well as in related activities such as collections, credit reporting, credit insurance and insolvency practice.
The Institute's aim is to raise professional standards in credit management and to increase awareness of its importance as a crucial management function with a vital role in improving marketing, profitability and cash flow.
The Institute of Credit Management is the only UK body which offers professional qualifications in credit management. The ICM membership grades and entry criteria are as follows:
This is a non-professional grade, carrying no designatory letters, for those who wish to subscribe to the Institute's services but who, for whatever reason, are not yet seeking full professional membership. Candidates must be over 21 years old with some experience in credit management which can be verified at the time of application.
Those who wish to study for the Institute's qualifications must first register as students by completing the appropriate registration form. The Institute operates an open entry policy and candidates are not required to satisfy any age or education criteria before being admitted. Potential students should note that the Institute's examinations are only available within the United Kingdom and that there are registration closing dates for each examination series. Students who are not registered before these dates are not eligible to receive an examination entry form or to sit the examinations.
Students who complete successfully the Institute's Certificate in Credit Management qualification are eligible to become Associates and are entitled, for as long as they remain in membership, to use the designatory letters AICM (Cert) after their names.
Associates who go on to complete successfully the Institute's Diploma in Credit Management qualification are eligible to be upgraded to Graduate Members and can use, for as long as they maintain their membership, the designatory letters MICM (Grad).
