Originally founded in 1919 and granted the Royal Charter in 1975, CIMA represents Financial Managers and Accountants who work in industry, commerce, not for profit and Public Sector organisations. Key activities relate to business strategy, information strategy and finance strategy.
CIMA represents the voice of 77,000 students and 60,000 members in 155 countries. Their focus is to qualify students and support their members and employers. The scope of the CIMA qualification extends far beyond pure accountancy and standard management training. The syllabus is continually updated in order to preserve its commercial relevance and, as such, is highly regarded in every business and industry sector.
Studying for your CIMA Chartered Management Accountant qualification involves the completion of three levels of exams. Upon completion of the Foundation exams, you will receive the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting and successful completion of the Intermediate stage will result in the award of the CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. To become a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA), you must also complete the final level of exams and gain three years of relevant practical experience.
Although CIMA operates a flexible entry policy, the nature of the course will require candidates to have reached a good standard in Mathematics and English before commencing study. Students may find that their existing academic and/or professional qualifications may make them exempt from having to complete certain areas of the syllabus. For example, if you have completed the AAT Technician stage, you be exempt from all five of CIMA's Foundation level subjects.
